The Mexican War Streets

In the 1840s, developer William Robinson Jr. laid out a grid here in what was then Allegheny City and named the new streets for the battles and generals of the Mexican-American War — Buena Vista, Monterey, Palo Alto, Resaca, Sherman, Taylor. Today it's one of Pittsburgh's most beloved historic districts: restored Victorian rowhouses, brick sidewalks, and a North Side character all its own.

Why "Good View"?

Buena Vista, Spanish for Good View, is the namesake our favorite place in the Mexican War Streets. Pittsburgh has so many "Good Views" throughout the City, from Mt. Washington, to the West End Overlook, North Shore Riverfront, Station Square, and all the bridges...too many to count. The name Cafe Good View is a tribute to both the Mexican War Streets and the City of Pittsburgh.

Come see it for yourself. We’ll have a coffee waiting.
